A giftcard from a bookshop or from Marimekko stores.

You can hardly go wrong with a coonskin cap, a pair of rawhide shoes, and a multifunction camp knife.
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

101 rabbits, now that you bring that to mind. That would be more than 100 rabbits.

Check out http://www.nettilahjakortti.fi There's a wide variety of gift cards that can be paid online and sent directly to the recipient. For example a massage or some such pampering would probably be welcomed by a woman of that age, although I'd steer clear of very specific spa/beauty parlor treatments, unless you know exactly what she'd like done. If you want a less personal one, e.g. a restaurant voucher should be ok in anyone's book. There are also flower shops offering online payment and delivery. Personally I prefer to give immaterial gifts (a pleasant experience instead of 'stuff') when not knowing specifically what one wants.

We don't know your friend's wife! I quite often give books as gifts (it's nice to write a little message inside) - for example a cook book from your country or some kind of a travel book.

Something useful like a small bag, purse or a scarf. Maybe something hand-made, slightly unusual or unique in some way.

Music? A CD?

A nice card is really enough, even just an email. Are you friends with her, too? You adressed her as your friend's wife, so I assumed not. In that case a gift is really not required, and a bit going overboard in my opinion. But, if you do want to send a gift then I agree with Penelope that something from your country would be nice, and also slightly unusual and/or hand-made (something that one cannot get here just by walking into a store).
