Current Job oppurtunities in Finland an EU

Post by suomalainenamerican » Mon Aug 30, 2010 5:24 am

I am an dual citizen with citizenship in both America and Finland; currently living in America. I speak Finnish and English fluently. I have never lived in Finland (I have Finnish citizenship) through my parents.

I was wondering what the current job market in Finland is like. What kinds of entry-level job opportunities are available in both Finland and the EU? Having never lived in Finland am I reduced to low-skill labor (dish washing, delivering newspapers, etc.) or do other opportunities exist? How about in the rest of the EU?

Thank you for any advice

Let me give you a basic example. I recently got my Finnish Citizenship and eligible to work in any EU member state. I can speak few languages (also CIA listed as critical languages) and there is atleast 40 jobs ready for me anywhere else then Finland in EU. +20 available in the States. I recommend you look for jobs in the states first, then in UK, Ireland, Germany and finally in Finland. This is my personal recommendation.

Finnish job market is on here www.mol.fi

Not sure about the rest of the EU... but I suggest you give Greece, Ireland and Portugal a miss.
Seems like Germany is still a buoyant economy.

But it depends on what you're good at. Mental health and geriatric nurses are always in short supply.

Probably a valid recommendation. When making comparisons, it's good to remember that Finland has a population of 5M+, compared to 500M+ in the EU and 300M+ in the US.

Exactly!
Let me compare the jobs I found in Finland and the rest of the EU recently (and few in north america):

Finland:
1-Airport Security
2-Airport food packing
3-Airport cleaning
4-Varastotyö
5-Taksinkuljettaja

Ireland - UK
1-Microsoft Customer Support
2-Electronic Arts LT-QA tester
3-PayPal Customer Service agent (english + other european languages)
4-Google Ads Quality Manager Assistant
5-iGaming online betting website manager, localization tester

USA - Canada (I need GreenCard but I'm qualified for the jobs below)
1-Language Subtitle Editor (SDI MEDIA USA)
2-Financial Operations Associate
3-International Inside Sales
4-US Army language instructor (apr. 70.000 usd annually)
5-Market Researcher (Canada)
6-Help Desk Analyst (Canada)

My problem is, I have a babygirl coming at december and can't go anywhere else than Finland for now

In the addition to www.mol.fi, you could check these out:

http://www.barona.fi/tyopaikat/
http://www.studentwork.se/fi/applicants/jobs
http://www.aarresaari.net/jobboard.htm
http://www.varamiespalvelu.fi/Suomi/fi/ ... %B6paikat/
http://www.jobsafari.fi/

All jobs in Finland are not available in mol.fi, so I recommend a lot of time for reasearch

If the job ad is in Finnish, then always apply in Finnish. It will not do any harm to mention in your application that you are retuning to your roots.
