Master´s Degree of Education and Globalization

Post by blue_star » Tue Sep 28, 2010 5:41 pm

I am going to apply to the Master of Education and Globalization offered by the University of Oulu.
I know the precedence is given to students with a background in Education and Social Science fields (while I have a Bachelor's Degree in the humanities).
I would wanna ask if any of you took part of the selection the past years and if you can give some more information. Most of all I am interested in knowing if someone with a different background than Education/Social Science actually passed the selections.

I am also going to apply to the University of Vaasa and Jyväskylä (MDP in Intercultural Studies and MDP in Intercultural Communication), where precedence is given to applicants with background in the humanities. So, if there is someone who is studying one of those degrees, I would really want to know more about them.

My husband is on the Education and Globalisation course and I am doing the Master of Education, International Programme.

In past years there have been quite a few people with backgrounds in different fields (english, psychology, IT, business management, to name just a few) so I wouldn't worry about it, however you will need to demonstrate an interest in Education in your application and your interview if you get one. As part of the masters degree there is a 25 ECTS minor, student who don't have a background in education must do the "Education in Transition" minor where as student who do have more freedom to choose.

If you are on facebook, there is this group http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=1 ... 303&ref=ts which is a group for alumni, current students and enquirers, there are plenty people there who can answer your questions.

I just noticed in your other post that your goal is to become a teacher. Edglo is NOT a teachers education, you will not be a qualified teacher at the end of it. It is a fantastic course if you want to be a teacher it is not for you. I would suggest that you contact Maria Jarvela in the Department of Teachers Education and Educational Sciences. There have previously been students studying to be language teachers that have done the pedagogical studies together with students on my programme (the Master of education international programme is a 5 year teachers education taught in English). Maria (who was acting professor) is probably in the best position to advise you on what you would need to do and how you could do it.

Why would you need one? The education is free.

Tuition is free but you have to pay the cost of accommodation and the other expenses, like insurance, from your own purse.
If it`s worth its while? Yes,if know finnish and wish to get academic degree for "free".
