Suggestions anyone! Transfering Large Files to China

Post by Cod » Tue Dec 07, 2010 9:49 am

..with the untimely death of Drop.io, ,bought out by Facebook then killed - anyone got any idea how to transfer large files between Finland and China? (tried and tested eg's are best!)

Many thanks in advance.

..heh heh..that's a good one.

Used Yahoo Messenger for now..it shifts up to 2GB using the downloaded application version (ie not the web browser version).

Using U-Send-It etc, etc - is alot more cumbersome..but may be safer in terms of having your data intercepted...and FTP is too complex when there are many different random players.

Drop.io was great...RIP.

Encrypt it (don't use zip encyrption) and stick it on a web site (your own?) Send the password over a different channel (encrypted messenger, SMS)

I could even rent you some web space for a small consideration...

Oooh, excellent suggestion! A bit cumbersome to get started but very secure.

..does seem like a good idea Mook - since clearly, with the demise of Drop.io (and all of our 10GB of company files stored on there which vanished on D-day) - it demonstrates what we all know anyway, if you leave your data in the hands of somebody else, no matter how much they promise that they'll protect it - when push comes to shove - they probably wont.

Also, I imagine random downloads from sporadic websites are perhaps less likely to fall prey to snooping by PRC - whereas maybe it's easier for them to keep an idea of traffic originating from a dedicated transfer site.

I'll keep you offer in mind Mook - when we want to move full length animations (4GB), Messenger won't be enough.

Fortunately the chinese are totally reliable and not known for copying anything

You can get sensible-sized web hosting packages for less than 10 Euros/month including a domain...

I use oxter.net, which is run by some of the guys that hang-out here.
