There have been a few articles in the press about horse meat in recent weeks. Yes, it is available in most of the bigger better supermarkets. If I remember correctly, it is indeed Finnish horse meat. We tasted some in Chef Wotkins factory store in Sörnäinen. It was pretty good. Nice with a hot creamy garlic potato gratin.

I purchased some fresh horse at our local meat counter a few weeks back and it was indeed domestic. From the research I did concerning this cold-smoked horse I found that Lapin Liha imports their horse meat, which I guess makes sense from a business standpoint if they can get it at a lower price. I've always liked horse and am pretty pleased that it is becoming more readily available in Finnish groceries.
