Currency Exchange for large amounts

Post by guinness » Thu Jan 27, 2011 2:02 pm

Has anyone used a currency exchange broker for transferring large amounts of currency for, say, a house downpayment. I'm looking to transfer several tens of thousands of US dollars to euros, and I'm trying to find the best company to use (i.e. best rates). Any experience in this area would be most appreciated!

Thanks!

Hmmm. We used UKForex, but probably not good for you, not being from UK! But we had no recommendation, chose purely on the basis of some research. Worked out ok for us, rates seemed good and transactions were quick enough.

No, this isn't Kahn.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have been in contact with WorldFirst (based in the UK). They offered me a quote that was roughly a 0.55% margin above the mid-market rate. Do you remember what margins you paid with UKForex and Piagi?

I asked my OH and he looked up some details. This is what he told me:

on 13th September when we did a deal, mid market rate was 1.1996686093
The rate given by UKForex was 1.1991

Just an update. I used WorldFirst (UK) for my currency exchange needs. I was very happy with the service that I received.
