Morphology

Post by ledian » Sun May 29, 2011 11:27 am

Hello,
I`ve been looking all over for a good book or website or anything regarding finnish morphology and i haven`t been able to find anything. I have a test coming along at school pretty soon and I need a number of things explained but so far....failed at achieving that. Any chance anybody knows anything about the following:

1. Supistuminen
2. Sananmuodostus ja johtaminen
3. Numeroiden suomelle tyypillisistä käyttötavoista
4. Suffiksin i:stä riipuuvat äännevaihtelut
5. Rektioita.
6. Potentiaali

Any help would be extremely appreciated :) Thanks so much for your time.

Thank you very much for the link!

Could anybody try to explain the points I wrote about? Some of them I don`t even know what they mean, or what their definitions might be. That`s why I asked for some kind of morphology site :(

Thank you. :)

“Usage of numbers that is typical/particular to the Finnish language.” See this thread, for example.

This translates as “phonetical alterations which depend on the letter ‘i’ in the suffix”. (OK, where to get information on that? Beats me!)

Rektio (aka case covernment, see the bottom of this page for some examples), is roughly equivalent to English phrasal verbs, but instead of having to learn the correct adpositions that go together with the verbs, in Finnish you need to learn the correct grammatical cases.

If you need to take a test on these subjects, doesn’t your school provide you any suggestions on suitable text books, grammar books, or other material which would cover these subjects (to the extend required for passing the test)?
