Hi All,
Hopefully somebody may be able to help me, I'm looking to move to Helsinki around Christmas 2011/new year 2012, and I'm trying to work out what kind of demand there is for my line of work.
I'm a just qualified management accountant ACMA, with 5yrs work experience, I've worked mostly as an analyst for medium retail and large manufacturing companies. I guess what I'm looking to find out is whether CIMA (Chartered Institue of management accountants) is recognised in Finland? And secondly how well I will get on with very basic Finnish Language skills? (I will be doing Language courses both here in the Uk and when I get to Helsinki to improve as quickly as possible.)
Really I'd like to stay in the analytical side of things, but from the job listinsg there seems to be a lot of work available for Bookkeeping/financial accounting for small businesse or firms etc? (Not sure I am qualified to work in that side of accounting, that would be ACA in the uk...?)
Anyway I know this is quite an industry specific query, but any other experiences or advice in this area would be appreciated!
Thanks and take it easy
J
Ps other info; I am uk/EU citizen, speak very basic finnish (will be taking language lessons), will be living with my Girlfriend in Helsinki for the foreseeable to future, with a plan to apply for residence within the 1st 3 months of work.

most of the time is about how well you speak finnish but this field is dominated by finns because of language preference..well, i am degree holder agric-economist and can work in any economic related field but here i am studying another degree to get a better job(nurse-registered nurse)..helsinki maybe a good place to find job-thats positive because i live in nowheremäki..hahaha..but surely i believe you will find work..depends on your contacts and your own motivation to speak finnish..oh, puhun suomea sujuvasti....

Thanks Patrick
Yeah I'm pretty determined to learn the language, I guess there may be business specific language courses as well...
At the moment I'm looking at the big Helsinki company websites for job listings etc, not much so far. Aside from that I've been using monster.fi and translating the whole site automatically which has provided a few openings to apply for.
Are there any good local Finnish job websites worth Looking at?
Cheers

best place to find vacancies is www.mol.fi it is a very good place to search jobs and hope someone can assist you in filling...and translations...Good luck
Re: CIMA qualified Accountant moving to Helsinki
You should also try PWC, Deloitte, Accenture, McKinsey etc. OK so auditing is not everyone's cup of tea but those companies are international and more likely to hire non-Finnish speaking accountants than some of the local firms.
If I remember correctly, Tieto has a big retail branch (and the company language is English).

Thanks Penelope,
I will certainly have a look at those companies, I'm not too fussy about the type of work as long as it is related. To start with atleast it will be about getting my foot in the door of a company based in Finland. Then I'll see what is what after that...
I'm in Helsinki this weekend, any places I can go for job related info in person that I can't do online?
thanks J
ps.
Thanks Patrick I have set up RSS for Mol.fi
