Hi guys,
say I wanted to take the language test with the aim of applying for Finnish citizenship. The medium level is required for that application. If my level is really at fluent level, what are the pros/cons of taking the medium vs highest level? The medium level is cheaper than the highest level, but would there be any other potential situations where it would be good to prove a highest level skill, making it cheaper in the long run to just get the highest level test done right from the start?
thanks,
interleukin

Re: medium vs highest language test level
Well, the price difference is 45 euros. So for me, if I were confident enough to pass the advanced level, I would take it. In the long run it could help you for example to find a new job if you need the Finnish language skill for your work. However, if you want to do some translation work, you can try to pass the Authorised Translator test. I guess this certificate should be ok for the citizenship application, even though it's not listed in the accepted certificates in the newly revised Citizenship Act.
Otherwise, you can just take the medium level test, if you don't predicate much usage for the certificate in the future.

Yeah, I´m a frickin biologist, don´t foresee a future in languages other than as a hobby. But cheap as I am, I´d prefer to pay for the highest level test now than to pay for the medium one and the highest one later, thus the post here. And who knows, maybe my language skills are not as great as I think and then I sit there with a failed highest level test
