My Finnish language is not top notch, still needs a lot of work. I live in Turku, I have a 4-year residency permit.
Currently looking for a job, no preferences but I would like to work in the culinary industry.

Does anyone know of a place where I could start? I guess I am a bit afraid to make mistakes with my less than
perfect Finnish language. I am eager to work, though.

Without speaking much Finnish, labouring in construction or a moving/logistics company, factory work, tourism etc. If you have chef experience, I can't see partial Finnish skills a problem? I found a job with a moving company here who happened to be specifically looking for Native english speakers. Another option, move to Helsinki as the best English speaking jobs are likely to be found here.

I understand of course that you are looking for a paid job. I believe that voluntary work could take you a step closer to a paid job -in several ways. Voluntary work would look good in a job application and the voluntary work organizers could give you references.

The job has of course nothing to do with culinary industry. I do not think that all his employees are qualified language teachers. I do of course not know if Mr Proctor needs more English teachers but if I were you I would ask him.

kalmisto, do you know anyone who works for him? Do they really pay better hourly rates than the rest? (PS: not including EF which IMO is not a benchmark in teachers' salaries). To be honest, I have never heard of them

To keep on a culinary theme: I'm always a bit suspicious of restaurants that have a million different dishes on the menu. (...Know what I mean?)

No need, some language schools will take any native speaker. In fact, if you are not qualified, it gives them a good excuse to pay you less.

Anyway, I googled c.c.communications and the company seems to be doing OK, stable turnover and a little profit. The blabla on the website is dire (as in BS bingo) but hey, not many language schools are making a profit these days.

But if I were a business man, running a company that relies on other Finnish companies for business... I might not want to trash the country's health system (or anything else) in public.

No, I am not. I have never taken any courses on teaching or anything whatsoever. I have not taken courses on cooking, but I did work in Catering for a long time (family business) not to mention I am very good at cooking.

I went to school for the arts, graphic design, but cooking is a passion of mine, same as helping animals in need. I will look into this Mr Todd Proctor, although the name itself sounds out of a Rob Zombie movie hehe.. but I'll check it out. I know of this one girl from Venezuela, who is fluent in English, and she teaches little children English and Math etc. She went to school for journalism, and isn't fluent in Finnish at all. So I wonder how on Earth she is doing that. Not sure how to ask her, as we aren't close friends and don't want her to think I am coming for her job :/

Most of the TEFL schools have a kinda open application thing and are always "Looking for trainers". They like to have a database of all the teachers in the area. Sadly, it means nothing at the end of the day.

Don't get me wrong, it's cool you are trying to help...I just don't want the OP to get their hopes up. Be great if I was wrong though.

I have reason to believe that they will need more staff in December. You would not need to be fluent in Finnish if you worked as a chamber maid ( cleaning rooms and making beds ). I do not know if this is a good suggestion or not but "fortune favors the brave",as they say,and it does not cost you anything to mail them. Perhaps they will answer your mail, perhaps not. I noticed that you are able to communicate in some other languages also besides English. You should include that info in your job application. The spa has not only Finnish guests.
