Hey everyone,
I am moving to Helsinki in September and trying to get a job in a restaurant/bar because I hear this is the best place to start. Unfortunately, I speak very, very basic Finnish, and only a bit of Swedish (English is my first language). Are there any known restaurants/bars in central Helsinki that are known to hire English-speaking foreigners? I know Aussie bar does but aren't hiring at the moment. I have full EU working permission etc.
Cheers!
Tom

Re: Restaurant/Bar work in central Helsinki
So you either have EU passport and as English is your first language, I'd guess British or Irish? If you don't have passport from EU country, you'll need RP: http://www.migri.fi/netcomm/content.asp ... anguage=ENtjoyner wrote:(English is my first language)... I have full EU working permission etc.
There is no "full EU working permission". You need to be citizen of EU state to work wherever in EU you like.

You also need the Finnish hygiene pass to work in a restaurant kitchen (sometimes even if you are only serving) and you need the alcohol pass to serve behind a bar. It is possible to take the tests in English but in order to pass them you need to swat (edit: swot) up a bit before hand.

Ah OK thanks for the info penelope, i'll look into it. I've just applied to a few temp agencies in the Helsinki area so I'll see if they ask for one!
