Desperate need of a job

Post by scurvy_1_3_5 » Tue Sep 13, 2011 1:30 pm

Hi,

I have been searching for a job for more than 3 years now. I have minimal Finnish skills. I am also studying, so there is that. But other than that I am almost out of money to support myself here and if I cant get a job soon I will be forced onto the streets. Does ANYONE know where I can get a job? Anything, at all

Scurvy, you could start by giving out useful information like in which city you are living.

No excuses! Just go back home. You've got your "free" college education at the Finns expense. Go home and put your education to work there. Be honest with yourself. If you were really interested in staying in Finland, you would have learned the language by now. I know I sound like a hard a$$ here but again, at least be honest with yourself!

If one studies in English, then I can very well understand the lack of Finnish skills.

Ahhh.... I think you've hit upon a very imortant point there! All my American friends who graduated from college in Finland had all their classes/instruction in Finnish. All of them did eventually return to America to work even though many of them had a Finnish wife.

Unfortunately mejimsfc, your limited peer group isn't quite representative of all foreign students who come to study in Finland. And your indirect suggestion that all foreign students should study in Finnish is of course quite ridiculous.

I do not think it is a place for verbal swordplay haha)

It can be really stressing when you are in need of a job, and phrases that make you feel giulty and helpless (like: be honest with yourself, you studied at the expense of the others) are not constructive at all. I do not see any point in such answers. It is not a forum for preaching too.
