Job wanted Jyväskylä area
Job wanted Jyväskylä area
I am an Aircraft Mechanic recently arrived in Finland, looking for any kind of job.
Unfortunately I don't speak Finnish yet.
I am married to a Finn and have a 2 year old child who is also a Finnish citizen.
I have a Social Security number and Bank account.
Interested in doing any sort of mechanical/hands on work. I have experience/qualified in
- Aircraft Mechanic
- Car Mechanic
- Carbon Fibre/Glass Fibre repair
- Store Manager
- Production Manager
- ISO9001 Auditor
- Welding Inspector
and more.....
Anyone know of something that's available?
Anyone know where someone with my background should start looking?
Thanks
Neile

Best place to start looking? Maybe the UK.
Seriously, as you'll notice from reading posts on this forum, your chances are slim. If you find something decent, you can count yourself lucky.
Seriously again, did you do any "future planning" before you decided to land in Jyväskylä?

Future planning consisted of getting out of South Africa so that we stand a better chance of not being murdered/raped/robbed/etc.
Also, the South African education system has fallen apart and qualifications from SA are no longer worth the paper they're printed on.
No way am I goingto send my son to school in SA, even if it means I wash dishes for the rest of my life.

Re: Job wanted Jyväskylä area
Wow, you are almost in the middle of no where.
That is most unfortunate. I was going to say have you checked out finnair in Helsinki airport. You might want to start going to school and take up Finnish language courses. Have you thought of getting licence to become entrepreneur? Now, Vaasa(area), has a lot of factories, that's west of you.
Wish you well.

Wish you well.

This is the Day..!

Kalmisto...Thanks for the link. Any help is appreciated
Mita nyt.... Yes, Jyväskylä is not exactly the center of the European aviation industry. Finnair are in a bit of financial trouble (just like most airlines in the world) and are not hiring. I am doing a language course at the moment, and I am also working through a CD/Book self-teaching thing. I have applied also applied to be on the next course at Palapeli Language course.

If you are interested in getting to know some new people you could join Finn-Guild in Jyväskylä :

Finn-Guild meetups and events are not only for Finns and Englishmen. Any nationality with active English skills is welcome to join. As far as I know there is no membership fee.

There is an airport at Jyväskylä and they have regular service there. You may be able to get on a "deicing" crew there for the winter. If you have any jet engine repair experience you might have a shot at a pretty good job even through the hiring freeze. Helicopter and turboprop experience improves your chances. Good luck!
