IT Job Hunting

Post by Aegil » Wed Oct 19, 2011 10:52 am

Hey,

I am an IT systems administrator(hosting unix and windows) and due to problems with my first job in Finland now looking for another job.
But thats fine, I've been job searching and applied through about 30 companies since Monday which are IT / hosting /software related. I was just wondering what method you guys use. I've been compiling a list of IT companies as I find them so I should have a database of companies I can check periodically for any changes in there open positions.

So far I have just been searching IT companies on Google and sending open applications, now I have moved onto finding IT companies on mol.fi and sending open applications and specific applications if I find any particular job that fits in.

My open application system got me a job from my third email with a very nice salary, which I have worked with 3 month but then fell through due to the dev team not getting the product out on time for me to support.

So really, what other advice to people have and other tricks that I am missing at the moment?

Make a LinkedIn profile. Note, that there are actually 2 different places that you need to fill out (CV and public profile... or something like that) with more or less identical information. Quite a lot of places seem to check them out for fitting profiles. Start also to build up your network.

Check out Monster, quite a lot of places advertice their open job opportunities there. Make a profile and fill in your CV there, too, as again, quite a lot of places search for fitting profiles.

Register at recruitement companies, like Barona and Poolia. I'm sure there are lots of others.

Aarresaari is a jobboard for academic recruitement. As it is free, a lot of smaller companies advertise there.

The jobboard at Oikotie.
