Barwork in Finland

Post by MihkelO » Fri Jan 06, 2012 12:38 am

Hello there,

I just moved to Helsink and I have been a barman for 6 years (also graduated from a barschool) .
I speak English, Estonian, Finnish (orally) and German.

What I need to know, is what papers I need to get sorted out, and any links posted would be very helpful.

Thank you,

Mihkel.

The two certs you need at some point is alkoholipassi(there has to be one certified person at any time) & hygieniapassi(if you do any food handling) , but you might get the employer to train you in these (they have courses in english). With your experience & languages I'd start with the big hotel/restaurant chains as well as the temp agencies like barona.

Basically the only thing you need to learn quick is the Finnish alcohol law regulations and its quirks (as what you can do and how) + the bookkeeping as alcohol is holy cow of tax.

Ok, I have my Anniskelupassi now, but no Hygienepass.

So you suggest I start at hotels ? I would prefer a bar - any hints ?

Hotels have bars, too. For example, Scandic Continental has one. With your experience and languages I think it will not take long time to land a job! Just be confident!
