Divorce process for inter. couple in Finland - Need advices

Post by livestrong » Fri Jan 27, 2012 8:04 pm

Hi all,

I am a female Asian got married to a male European (not Finnish), the marriage was arranged in Finland. Our marriage lasts for a few months and it turned out that we are not a good match and we did not find the common mind. The relationship went really badly, aggressively communicative, tiresome, mental hurt, depressed, which leaded me to think of a divorce to release the relationship. We do not have kids yet. Please someone be kind to advice the divorce process step by step. PLEASE HELP!

Thank you very much indeed!

Br,

Print the pdf from here: http://www.suomi.fi/suomifi/suomi/asioi ... index.html
Fill it (twice if you do it alone, one copy is sufficient in case you both sign it).
Take the paper(s) to local court.
Wait 6 months.
Same paper(s) but you fill the box in "Hakemus II" instead of "Hakemus I" and take them to same place as before.
Done.

Wait 6 months.
Doesn't this start only after 2 years of marriage?

Thank Upphew for the advice and the link attached. However, I still have couple of questions relating to the divorce issue:

1. I got my family name changed into husband's family name, can I get back my original family name after divorce?
2. also, after the first hand-in paper to the local court, can I go back to my country or I have to stay in Finland with my husband during the reconsideration period?
3. Do you have any idea how to find the local court?

I am looking forward to your response!

Thank Onkko for your answers. Yet, I was a bit wonder that what do you mean that I can go back to home country, even without filling divorce paper. Does it mean the divorce then will not be solved?, unless my husband sends it the divorce paper to the district court to get the divorce without my permission, because I was absent in the country so I lose the right to be involved in the divorce decision process. I really want to go away and leave him behind.
