need help with translation

Post by re_visor » Sat Mar 17, 2012 5:06 pm

Hello everybody,

I am working at translation of some chapter of Finnish history for Czech version of Wikipedia. The core of my work is translation of article about this event from English Wikipedia to Czech language, but I would like to use some photos from Finnish Wiki. Problem is, the description of these photos are (of course) in Finnish language, and only word I know is "perkele" /which is not enough for translation of such a text :) /.

My pleasure: is here somebody willing to translate about 50 sentences from Finnish to English? Specifically, sentences under photos at: http://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lapuan_liike

Thank You
re_visor, Czech fan of Suomi :)

Hmmm... not many of the photos make much sense in the English text.

I can start:
Itäkarjalaisille pakolaisille järjestetyn Lapuan sotakoulun johtokunta vuonna 1923. Vasemmalta lähtien: maanviljelijät Kustaa Tiitu, Aukusti Antila, Matti Malkamäki ja Vihtori Kosola. Tulevia Lapuan liikkeen johtohahmoja.

Leadership of organised "Lapua's warschool" to foregneis from the east Karjala in year 1923. From west to the right:
Farmers Kustaa Tiitu, Aukusti Antila, Matti Malkamäki ja Vihtori Kosola. they're about to come a leadership of this organisation.

(i don't even know, why they are "about to come" as a leader, when in first sentence they was already leader. Goddamn how hard text to translate. maybe they wasn't leaders, when this photo was taken...)

Yhtymä Vientirauhan toimitusjohtaja Martti Pihkala sotilasasussaan vuonna 1918 sodan aikana.
union of "exportpeace" managing director Martti Pihkala as hes military costyme at year 1918 in wartime.

Vihtori Kosola puhuu Lapuan toisessa kokouksessa. Kuvassa näkyy vain noin kolmasosa Seurahuoneen salista ja osanottajista. 15. maaliskuuta 1930 pidetyssä Lapuan toisessa kokouksessa perustettiin maltillinen kommunisminvastainen kattojärjestö Suomen Lukko. Kokous kuitenkin ennakoi liikkeen radikalisoitumista ja suoran toiminnan aloittamista.

Vihtori Kosola speak in Lapua's second meeting. the picture show only approximately 1/3 of 'seurahuone' hall and people in there. in second meeting, 15. mars 1930, they made a calm Roof organisation against communism called "Lock of Finland". the meeting anyway anticipate that the move going to get more radical and will start a straight action.

(sorry my bad english, maybe it is better when someone else will move this... perkele :D)

pullonpohja, thank you for your help. I decided to use only last one photo/text (Vihtori Kosola speak in Lapua's second meeting...), because rest of texts, translated by you, refers to persons and events, which are not mentioned at english Wiki text (much shorter then finnish one), which i originally translated from.

The original Finnish text:

Vihtori Kosola puhuu Lapuan toisessa kokouksessa. Kuvassa näkyy vain noin kolmasosa Seurahuoneen salista ja osanottajista. 15. maaliskuuta 1930 pidetyssä Lapuan toisessa kokouksessa perustettiin maltillinen kommunisminvastainen kattojärjestö Suomen Lukko. Kokous kuitenkin ennakoi liikkeen radikalisoitumista ja suoran toiminnan aloittamista.

My (expanded) take on it:

“Vihtori Kosola giving a speech in the second general assembly of the Lapua Movement, held at Seurahuone, the local club house. Only about one third of the total number of participants are visible in the photograph. The assembly, which took place on March 15th, 1930, agreed to establish an anti-communist umbrella organization called Suomen lukko (“Finland’s Lock” or “The Lock of Finland”). While Suomen lukko was conceived as a moderate-minded organization, this meeting was nonetheless a precursor to the radicalization of the Lapua Movement and marked the beginnings of its supporters’ plunge into direct action.”
