where to buy berries and nuts in Helsinki?
where to buy berries and nuts in Helsinki?
Hi everyone,
I'm Exchange student living on tight budget who just moved to Espoo. I've found out that nuts and frozen berries are verrrry expensive in the regular supermarkets (Alepa, S, K, Stockmann, even LIDL). Where in the Helsinki Metropolitan area (Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa) can one buy berries and nuts for the cheapest price?
Also, does anyone know where to buy Texturized Vegetable Protein (Soijarouhe in Finnish) in bulk amount (5-10kg)?
Thank you,
Taki

Can' t really see you beating Lidl prices except maybe Heino Tukku on a selected basis. The inside and outside 'markets' are usually more expensive during the summer when they have product (occasionally you'll get a closing time 'deal').

Their name is Heinon tukku — literally “Heino’s Wholesaling Company”.Upphew wrote:Heinon tukku.otnas88 wrote:Thanks. I will check out Heino Tukku.
The logo, however, only contains the word “Heino”.
(“Heino” is the founder’s last name. According to their website, it’s still a family company — run by the 4th generation of the Heino family.)

Thanks. That's what I guessed from looking at their website but wasn't sure. I guess Lidl is my best optionUpphew wrote:Heinon tukku. Heino(n) Tukku cards are in many, many hands. All embassies, consulates, schools, offices, companies etc. usually have them.Pretty easy to borrow usually if not even to get someone to get a card for you.
A lot of their prices carry very good margins for them and they are not so stupid to as to severely limit who gets to buy. In that light it is also good to realize that you must do selective shopping there and be price aware in general.

For nuts and dried fruit (raisins, etc) you can walk around the Hakaniemi area and compare the different asian and african shops there and on the way up to Sörnäinen. Quite a few different shops, some selling nuts in bulk. Also lots of soy products for sale.
