SPONSORED WALK

We would like to invite you and your friends, colleagues and co-workers to join a bunch of other well-intentioned Helsinki residents to amble around town on a SPONSORED WALK on Friday, August 20th, 2004.

The idea is fairly simple: to collect sponsors for your walk, and donate the proceeds to either the Anglican Church in Helsinki or Suomen UNICEF-yhdistys ry. Your sponsors can range from close family to companies, and all sums are welcome. We would like you to collect the sponsorship money before the event and have it ready to donate on the day. The Finnish-British Society will collect your donations and present them to the relevant organizations.

Our aim is to raise the profile and general use of the near 80-year-old Finnish-British Society, in furthering a good cause

We will walk in varying lengths and at varying speeds around at least two routes of general interest and beauty in central Helsinki, with a third option for the truly hearty, of a brisk walk starting in Espoo and ending at our premises in Kaivopuisto 1b. Of the two walks in central Helsinki, one will be a leisurely walk around the near-by parks, and the other the sponsored walk of ca 5 km. Both will have check-in points and tasks along the route. The walk from Espoo will measure ca 10 km.

The walks will start and finish at the Finnish-British Society. We invite you to be present at 5 p.m. for the registration. We will have a musical warm-up and start the walks at 5.30 p.m. Maps of the routes will be provided at the event. If you intend to walk the 10 km route, you will be informed separately of the route (please provide contact details when you register, preferably e-mail). We estimate that all groups will be finishing at around 7 p.m. There will be a presentation of the donations and beer and refreshments will be on sale.

Please note that if you want to walk in a team or group, and would like to mark out your group with a flag or particular costume you are most welcome to do so. There will be prizes for best costume, most sponsored team, fastest walk and possibly others, to be disclosed at the event.

Please note that the Society is on summer holiday till 2nd August.
