Finland tax rate example, is possible?

Post by GWolf2012 » Tue Oct 16, 2012 5:39 pm

Hi everyone,
I'm evaluating a work opportunity in Finland but I don't understand the Finnish tax system, I already saw the calculator by Vero.fi (http://prosentti.vero.fi/VPL2012/Sivut/ ... iedot.aspx)

As I know in Finland there are two main taxes to pay: income tax and municipal tax

i found the rates for income tax:
Tax (%) Tax Base (EUR)
0 1-16,100
6.5% 16,101-23,900
17.5% 23,901-39,100
21.5% 39,101-70,300
29.75% 70,301 And Over

and the municipal tax can be from 16,25% to 21,75% (Espoo is 17,75%)

If for example I will gain 35,000 € / year, I need to pay:
17,5% from 35,000€ + 17,75% from 35,000€ = 6,125€ + 6,212€ = 12,377 € ?

is this correct or not?

Finland tax rate example, is possible?

Yes but no. So you found it, did you calculate with the calculator?

Just find your county, for religion find the long one that says ei and omit all the rest of the stupid entries => next page just put in the first corner top left your yearly salary and calculate bottom right. (yes theres deductions maybe but you get the ballpark at least)

For 35K I get 20% tax percentage and taxes to be paid is 6886,19
The only figure you need to add to that is about 5.75% of pension and insurance.

Pursuivant, thanks for the fast reply :)

so the Vero.fi calculator includes the income and municipal tax, right?

good to know about the pension, so in my example will be:

35,000€ -6,886.19€ - 2,012.5€ (pension and insurance tax) = 26,101.31€
