auto electrics in finland

Post by obakesan » Sat Nov 03, 2012 8:23 am

Hi

Wondering what this field is like in Finland. To cut a long story short I am considering going to ammattiopisto and getting a qualification in this area. Already have qualifications and experience in electronics (diploma of electrical engineering).

Mostly wondering what the employment prospects are and perhaps some idea of salary.

Thanks for your thoughts

:-)

Like most countries electrical trades and associate areas are either 1,2, or 3 in terms of salary ,often fighting between electrical and plumbing for No1, although this country has a vast amount of very clean looking workers who don't look like they do anything. Its a good indication that if you pull your sleeves up and get dirty you might make some good money here. But i guess it depends where you come from.

Hi

Thanks :-)

Never been afraid of working or getting dirty.

My anticipation is that as more cars become electronic (fuel injection, integrated communications, backing assist ...)that thee would be more work for the auto electricians.

I meet some random passenger on a flight between abu Dhabi and Moscow 2 years ago and he was asking what "professional trade" would be the best to do for longevity and income considering i was from a great country and he was from a backwards place, i reported that electrical engineering was the safest bet, i think it still is.

I wouldn´t be so sure, when I worked as an Auto elect some 25yrs a go, it was common to do repairs to Alternators and Starter motors etc "in House" and basically everything electrical could be done by a skilled worker.
These days it is more plug in a laptop, see what part needs replacing and replace it from a part on the shelf, the old part is either binned or returned to the supplier.
even my Transit van is a pain to work on these days, I was warned that if I fitted too many interior lights the central processor would see the load as being outside perimeters and start giving error messages.

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

Actually running a diagnostic and replacement of parts is exactly what I had expected it to be. Just did that on my maxi-scoot the other week. Stator needed replacement. Never considered for long rewiring it.

As long as there is paid work in the area I don't mind :-)

My point is that it is now more and more considered "Unskilled" work or something done by the mechanic rather than a specialist Auto Electrician.
But good luck to you anyway.
