Check out the “Surname search” service of the Population Register Centre.Madchen wrote:I am interested to know if anyone knows or has the surname Moilanen
You might also want to take a look at the website of the Moilanen family/genealogy association (Moilaset = the name Moilanen in plural) and maybe contact the person running that website.
One of the well-known persons with the name Moilanen is Anne Moilanen (see here as well); a journalist, tv personality, and self-proclaimed feminist. As of now she works as an assistant to the Minister for Culture and Sport, Paavo Arhinmäki (Left Alliance).

There is also a bakery Moilasen Leipomo (Moilanen's Bakery) that now goes by just Moilas, that is a family bakery owned by a Moilanen family. The wikipedia page, in Finnish but run it through a translator: http://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moilas

Re: Surname
I am not Moilanen but this surname is mentioned in the book as "Suomalaiset sukunimet" (The Finnish surnames) and it tells:Madchen wrote:I am interested to know if anyone knows or has the surname Moilanen
From Carelian male names Moila, Moilo(i): Muilu from Russian names Samuil, Samoil(a), Hebrew Samuel came to Finnish surnames as Moilanen. Surname has found from most of the Savonia-Carelian area at the 1600 century like Rantasalmi, Sääminki and great parish of Vesulahti. Same name has found from the West Finland at the 1548 but because most of the name of the houses and persons this name is mentioned only at the Eastern Finland, it is most likely from the Carelia.
