Want to start my own business

Hi,

I have been working on contract job in Finland for last 18 months and after 6 months my B type permit and contract will get expired. I am interested to start my own business so I could settle down in Finland.

I am a non EU citizen and married, I have also attended the session on starting a Business in Finland.I would like to know first I should apply for the residence permit on the basis on Business plan or I should first apply for the business on the basis of 6 months valid visa I have. Another thing I would like to know in case I get approval for Business then Can i still work along with my business here if my contract gets extended.

Would appreciate if you could guide me.

The residence permit for self-employed people is relatively hard to get, since abuse would otherwise be frequent. Just saying "I want to start my own toiminimi, here is my business plan." won't work.

Assuming your current contract allows it, it will definitely be beneficial if the business is already running and producing substantial profits at the time when you apply for the residence permit.

Signed contracts with customers are essential if you want to have a realistic chance of getting the residence permit.

If you will be the sponsor of your spouses residence permit, the profits your business generates must be enough to fulfill the income requirements for a family member residence permit.

One more thing I would like to apply if it is possible to have more than one business registered to one individual. I mean can i apply for two businesses not at a same time but at a gap of a month.

And if you have an idea what is the duration of the process in getting the approval for the business.

Certainly, you can have as many businesses as u want but be ready to pay all the taxes for each, especially prepayment tax which u have to pay before even starting each. A better way to do it however is to start one company and then register others as subsidiaries with different names. However, the taxman will still come. The advantage is that you wont need to have a separate accountant for each biz unless u so desire. For more info, visit the website of Enterprise Finland
