They are rubbish. Not worth the weight to carry in your pack.

I've only seen one in action and the owner said performance was very poor on a 50/50 sunny/cloudy summer day. This was a handful of years ago. I thought the technology might have improved a bit, so over the last few weeks I've been talking to people and checking out online reviews. They still seem to be rubbish. :( The best reviews seem to be from those who have one of the solar/battery combo things, where you charge up the battery first with either solar or USB and then plug your phone into the unit to charge. But many of those positive reviewers seem to have used the USB charge rather than solar :?

If you come up with a good option though, please report back here as I am in the market for a decent one! :D
