Bank charges on paying bills

Post by daveba » Thu May 09, 2013 12:37 pm

I was trying to use Danske's net banking to pay the Trafi tax bill for my car. It kept showing around €6 charge for the payment. Is it because it was going from a credit card or is there always a charge even if you pay from your bank account?

Thanks.

Must be because you pay from your credit account.

The bank does charge 6 Euro for the transaction, even if you pay directly from your bank account. At least my bank does.

Yeah, it's time to change banks.

There are always fees when you use your credit card to withdrawal money. So paying a personal bill through the net using your credit card probably falls into that category in some kind of stupid rule they have.

I find it hard to believe you are charged 6€ every time you pay a bill online, If you are using your normal bank account and not your credit card. If that were the case, I don't think there'd be anyone staying with the bank. This is previously Sampo Bank, right? I use to have a bank account with them. I never had any such fees like what you are explaining with my normal account.

What bank? Danske has a certain account type (of which I am aware of) where there is no monthly fee, but where you pay for each transaction after first tow ones. But even that is not 6 euros.

This price list describes some account types with a €6.00 fee (!) per transaction. They all seem to be savings accounts of one type or the other so not really intended for everyday use.

Right. I have one of those (though empty an inactive). More flexible than a fixed term account, but not meant for paying bills (if transferring money directly to somebody else's account was even possible).
