Van renting from paku ovelle: some questions.

Post by ljl16 » Wed Jun 05, 2013 4:30 pm

Hi,

I tried sending them an email to days ago with this to no avail, they never answered. Since I'm sure some of you may have used their services in the past, I was wondering if you could help me out with the following questions:

-Where in Töölö does one pickup the van? (I know they deliver it to your location for an extra fee, but I am not interested in this)
-Can I pickup the van at any time on a Saturday? (it says they only operate in Töölö on weekend, but nothing past that -in the Finnish version it seems like from 8am to 9pm is the time daily where you can rent a van)
-They have an offer with IKEA if you buy 200e+ they dont charge you per km up to 60km -I thought you were just paying for the hours with the van and the gas, does this mean you dont need to refuel if your IKEA purchase is >200e and trip <60km??? What are the terms usually w/o the offer?

Cheers :-)

Hi,
It seems that it is much easier and faster to just give them a phone call.
I am renting a van from them soon so I can at least answer to your two first questions:
-the pick-up is at the Olympiastadion parking. A person will wait here with the keys.
-I am personally renting it a Sunday and it is ok since it is between 8am and 9pm (I could choose whichever time I wanted)

Hi.
The Olympic stadium parking became pay parking lot last winter and PakuOvelle moved over the hill to Eläintarha
parking lot. We picked up the van from this new place last February.

Thanks for the info. Could you put up a link to Gmaps or the name of a street close to it? Checking up for 'Eläintarha' just points me to korkeasaari :D

It's in vauhtitie, across from Linnanmäki/ alppipuisto (on the other side of the railway track.)

Another option is 24rent.fi - it let's you handle the booking and picking by mobile. The vans are controlled remotely (by satellite?) and are located in different places. You can book anytime it suits you.

Hi!
Vauhtitie is the street. It's between Nordenskiöldinkatu and Helsinginkatu.

The area is called Eläintarha (Zoo), because the Helsinki zoo was planned to be built there. However, the animals of the zoo were considered to be all too dangerous to be placed in that area, and therefore the zoo was built on an island Korkeasaari instead.
Later the streets there were used for arranging motoring contests "Eläintarhan ajot" (Eläintarha Rally). Therefore the street is Vauhtitie (Speedway). Nowadays one of the very few remaining Helsinki free parking places is there.

Thanks everyone for contributing to the thread.

I finally rented the van today, if someone is interested, the payment was as follows:

65e (for 8h) + 10e (weekend fee) + 10% of the km driven over 60km (IKEA promotion: if you buy up to 200e, you don't pay the gas for up to 60km). In my case I drove 90km, so 90-60 = 30 --> *10% = 3 liters that I had to refuel.

Overall it was 80e. Not bad :-)

It was in front of the Olympiastadion (the parking closest to the stadium).

Cheers,
