Child care work in Finland - information needed

Post by MrWicke » Wed Jun 12, 2013 12:25 am

Hi,

Over the next few months, my girlfriend and I are looking to relocate to Finland. We are both from Australia - I hold a German passport, while she has a UK passport (So visas hopefully wont be an issue). We a looking to move to Finland as I have been offered a new and exciting job. My concern how ever, my girl friend might have difficulty finding work that's as good as the job she is leaving here in Australia.

I have been looking for information on the net, but I am having trouble finding what type of work is available for an English speaking child care worker, and if her Australian diploma qualification would be recognized in Finland. Obviously another detail we would like to know would be an idea of expected wages (mainly so we can work out our budget etc)

If any one as any experience in this type of situation, or works in childcare in Finland, would you know where I could find this information? Nanny work would be fine, but full time work in a child care center around Helsinki or Espoo areas would be ideal. :)

As EU citizens you won't need a Residence Permit for Finland - you can just come and start working (but have to register your Right of Residence before the end of the third month).

If your girlfriend will not get a job in Finland, for many things (like whether she might be eligible for unemployment benefits) it will be relevant whether you two have been cohabiting for a minimum of two years.

There are sometimes job offers from English language or bilingual daycares looking for a native English speaker.

If she doesn't get one of those jobs, then she will likely be unemployed.

Thanks heaps for the replies Arian42 and Missk. This information will be helpful indeed!
Hopefully I'll have an answer about my work in a couple of weeks and we can start the process of getting her qualifications recognized and applying for Daycare jobs. Looking forward to Finland :)
