Residence permit processing time (average)

Post by Arif Shah » Wed Aug 07, 2013 7:00 pm

Hi All,

I am applying for my son's residence permit later this month. I am planning to travel my country and am planning our travel tickets. I was thinking about giving it a one and half month buffer time to get my son's permit

I just wanted to ask if someone has got their WP recently, what are the average processing time. I got it in three weeks and my wife almost got it within same time span. However I wanted to know if it takes much longer than that now

Regards
Arif

You shouldn't do that, unless the airline allows cheaply to change the date of the flight - or you might end up with a plane ticket you have to throw away.

You cannot predict if Migri is suddenly more busy, or if there are any clarifications needed.

(I assume your son is under 18 and you earn at least € 2200 after taxes, since otherwise the first question will be whether he can obtain a Residence Permit at all.)

Another question...I am in the process of registering my own business as I have quit my job. Even though I have not formally started earning in my new business, I do have some money in my account that I can survive on for many months. Is this going to create some problems for my four months old child who was born here in Finland and is getting money from Kela

That is exactly the kind of thing Adrian hinted about. It might create a problem in getting the RP or at least cause delays.

The child benefit you receive from Kela reduces the income requirement you have to fulfil for family members to be granted a Residence Permit for Finland.

Neither being born in Finland nor receiving money from Kela implies that a Residence Permit has to be granted.

I assume that when your wife applied for a Finnish Residence Permit, you had an employment with a sufficient income.
That is an easy situation for Migri to make a decision.

As of today you have no job and no income.
The first question is really whether your son will be granted a Residence Permit at all (I have no clue how Migri will handle your case), and the decision might take longer than in an obvious case.
