Thoughts about: Studying, Admission, Other Options ?

Hello,

I have received quite useful inputs from you on my first post: (https://www.finlandforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=79931). So, I want to say thanks a lot for helping me out and offering the suggestions.

I went to the TE office, and as you expected they suggested that the only way for me to be eligible to the labour market subsidy is by learning Finnish language.

Of course, I want to learn Finnish, But unfortunately the next course will start after 6 months as they (TE office) told me.

Anyhow, I am currently trying to plan my future and I would sincerely appreciate if you could advise me and share your thoughts about my situation, which is as follows:

Assume that I started going to the Finnish language school (Integration programme, Or, Whatever programme they (TE office) put me in) from e.g. (1.1.2014) till e.g. (1.10.2014), and my Finnish language skills become quite good.

After that, Assume that I wanna study something e.g. Nursing (My dream is to become a midwife). What should I do?

Do you think I can apply to university/educational institution with my high school diploma (Which I have it from my home country) even if I have low grades?

I am afraid that I will not get accepted in the Nursing programme, In case if I wasn't accepted, Any hope for me to study in any useful programmes?

In other words, My concern is: What if I wasn't accepted? What other options do I have?

For nursing programmes - they have them also in English - you need to look at the polytechnics. When the next yhteishaku starts they have all the possible prorammes available, the magic word you need to know is kätilö. What you can go to in the TE keskus there is a "student advisor" that is really there for the stupid 16-year olds with the "i dunno" problem, but they would know whats available and around. Unless you want to tackle say koulutusnetti on your own. But say you get onto an English programme you know your aim needs to be Finnish-Finnish-Finnish... meanwhile if its 6 months and they won't pay you anuthing before that, look at something say http://www.eiraedu.fi they have courses and are a pretty good in adult education - what also you need is maybe a bit of brush up say for nursing you need to do a maths/physics/chemistry/biology test - and they don't teach that vocabulary in regular classes...
