Where to get character certificate

Post by doforumda » Mon Sep 23, 2013 9:50 pm

Hi, I am living in Tampere. I need a certificate which tells that my records are good in Finland. I do not have any criminal record. I guess it is called as character certificate. Where can I get this certificate?

If you want an extract of your criminal record then the legal register centre does that:

http://www.oikeus.fi/oikeusrekisterikeskus/18232.htm

On that page you will find links to the online forms:

http://www.suomi.fi/suomifi/suomi/hakut ... kbox=forms

Here's the English versions:

I thought poliisi are the one who gives this kind of certificate. Isn't it?

No, poliisi is police who manages getting bad guys and oikeus is justice who tells if bad guy is a bad guy by law and registers bad guys.

Depending what kind of certificate you need i assume you need rikosrekisteriote what is given by oikeusrekisterikeskus and police had "nothing" to do with that. Police can arrest you but they cant judge you. Link was in dotorumdas post.

If you need more then you arent one getting it, you are giving possible employee permission to get it and its called "turvallisuusselvitys" and its done by SUPO (finnish version of CIA) and that could, depending on what level of safety check it is have police registers in it.
Employees who can get security checks are limited for army/nuclear plants/airports and similar.

I think I need "Application for a criminal records extract: work with children" one however I don't know what does that "work with children" mean. I don't have any children. Could you tell me what does this "work with children" mean?

What you probably want is the one "for foreign officials" that you can also get in English.

You can only get those for "a reason" - the employers have no right to ask such papers in Finland (unless you work with children), so you need to use a brain if you are going to someplace they can.

I am not a Nanni and not a teacher. So I don't need that one at all then.
