Online shopping payment

Post by tam » Sun Sep 29, 2013 10:37 pm

Hello,

Could anyone shed a light on me.

I am planning to set up an online shopping website. Some ideal examples like: http://www.gigantti.fi, http://www.netanttila.com ...

I am thinking of 2 options:

1. Design and make that website by myself
2. Hiring some professional Finnish (personal or company) to make it.

Would anyone has experience on this can share your knowledge:

- For 1st option: I am not professional at all (I only tried some free software to create a website). would it be safe here in Finland in term of security, hack...?

- For the 2nd option: Would it cost really much?

- And could someone recommend any host company in Finland where I can publish my website (also some online storage for email address)?

Thank you.

If you have to ask that question, choose option #2.

I guess I can answer your questions:

1. It will cost you tremendous time developing a web page from scratches. If you are not familiar with web development, forget about it. You will also need to build your content in Finnish.

2. It might cost you a lot of money for building the website, training sessions, maintenance. So you have to do something at a scale that's reasonably large to cover that cost.

About hosting, I think any reputable web-hosting service will do the job. Also, don't forget about payment gateway cost, will cost you around 50-100eur per month, and 3.5-5% per transaction.

Forget about it.
For the 2nd option: Would it cost really much?
Don't be surprised if you get offers of €5000,-
And since you're not a professional you keep needing them for regular maintenance.

Thank you all. I really appreciate it!

I just have look at tutorial of making an online shopping website from WooCommerce and Wordpress. It seems not too much complicated but as I said, I never done this kind of things before so I really need your advice. Would it safe with above tools for online payment from customer?

To lovelyjet, about dealing with bank. Could you please advise, how should I deal with bank. Do I need any permission from bank for my online shopping site? I am wondering if you have any experience with online payment, how do I link my account to receive online payment (I mean if people use net bank to pay ), would WooCommerce allows this function?

Many thanks

Tam

First, you will need to find a payment platform that could be integrated to your e-commerce software. You might have to sign separate agreements with some banks but I think the payment platform provider will guide you through.

my recommendation:
start with option ONE:
1. wordpress is attacked constantly (and it's not related to the fact if you are in finland or not) but if you take care ... and it's free
2. get also some free webhosting to play with at the begining (like awardspace.com)
3. when you get fed up by wordpress and its plugins check out something like shopify.com (free trial)

after minutes/hours/days of patient work, you can have your webshop running and see if people are clicking on your products or not. if not you can start to ask prices here in finland. i think people are overreacting as you have mentioned 2 huge website as ideal example - you are nor like them, those are huge companies.
