How to improve listening ability?

Post by tsuishant » Fri Jan 14, 2005 10:23 pm

Anybody knows how to improve listening ability? When I listen to Finnish conversation, I only understand the general idea, while the most important "details" are always missing. Some says that this will improve naturally by time, but I bit doubt it... Sometimes it is also difficult to "ask" what I dont undestand, somehow I think that if one can ask precisely "what" he doesn't understand, he already understands quite well.....

Another problem related to the listening, is that I can only understand better when I really concentrate, without too much noises around and too many Finns talking at the same time... :?

One thing you might try is to watch TV with the text in Finnish (for the deaf) on teletext 333 or 335 (depends). That way you see what you're supposed to have heard.?

have you tried to see disney/pixar or dreamwork movies? or something for children that you could enjoy, whatever...

they pronunciate perfectly, is not like in the bars, but it's less frustating. actually, i've learnt a lot from treating with children of my friends. basic and straight bocabulary.

"tämä on minum" "siskuni kiusaa mua" " saanko? voinko?"
and they don't speak english at all!!!

but really, whatch "shreck" or "monsters co." works as a starting.

moikka!
