Seeking histology job/work in a pathology lab.

Post by mward1030 » Sun Nov 10, 2013 8:49 am

I am an American histology technician looking to relocate to Helsinki/surrounding areas. I have also been a nursing assistant. Certified in the US. I can provide a resume and references. I speak English and some Russian, but will learn Finnish. I have worked in healthcare for about 12 years total. I would also be interested in research. I have an Associates of Applied Science Degree. I have 6.5 years experience in Histology. I perform IHC and do manual special staining of different types of tissue. I perform CAP (College of American Pathologists) proficiency testing, I have to review and revise procedures in the Histology area of the lab I work in. I have past experience as a Nursing Assistant (about 6 years).

What degrees do you have? You need to consider if you can get them somehow recognised in Finland.

Associate degrees are unknown and unrecognized in Finland. To be involved in research you would need a masters, which is more or less needed for a lot of things which you would need a bachelors for in the USA - teachers in Finland need a masters for example.

To work in a lab as a lab tech, you need to contact the relevant accreditation body and see if you are eligible to be recognized as a lab tech in Finland. They will want transcripts etc. To actually get a job you need to speak Finnish, unless you have a special skill which is desperately needed (maybe fish or qfpcr etc.) and as there is a recession, that might be hard.

Nursing is a registered profession, although there are both registered nurses and another type, similar to a LPN in the USA. You might get a job as a nurses aide in a nursing home.
