Hello everyone, I have searched the boards for an answer and I am still lost. I have lived here for 6 years and am a permanent resident here. I am currently unemployed (searching like crazy for a job) but I am a full time dad to a 4 and 5 year old that live with me.
I have reconnected with my college sweetheart and we want to get married. I have no idea how this will work as I am a permanent resident with 2 kids here and she is non EU. I could fly to America (or here if thats possible) and she would wait in America (if thats the protocol) for everything to go through....
How hard is it for a Permanent Resident to bring someone to Finland after they are married in the US. What would all of this involve. Thank you all.

Perm. Resident Wants to Marry and bring in a non EU spouse

Search around the migri site. Your biggest obstacle is probably the income requirement:

If your wife has income it won't be a problem. Since you have lived here for 6 years, can you get citizenship? That will make the income limits go away and the whole affair just a matter of paper work.

But the paperwork can take a long time and during that time bringing your sweetheart to Finland (longer than 3 months) is not an option.

I was in the same situation, but i was the wife that was coming to Finland. My husband is a resident of Finland, and i am an American. My husband didn't have a job, but he did have monthly income. I waited 6 months here in Finland to get my residents permit approved and it was denied because of insufficient funds. Than we hired a lawyer, and i waited 11 months to get my visa approved. During that time my husband went back to his previous job. We got married here in Finland. I dont think it will make a difference if you get married here or in america as long as the documents are legit. Because you have children i think the income requirement would be much higher for you than without children.
