ESL jobs?

Post by JJ1840 » Thu Nov 28, 2013 8:58 pm

Are ESL jobs easy to find? (I'm American but have a Finnish passport). I remember reading several years ago that there were many jobs, but perhaps things have changed?

There are virtually no ESL jobs available. The adult learning/ESL sector is controlled by (1) private language schools who employ freelancers on an hourly basis and (2) municipalities who employ freelancers on an hourly basis. The only "jobs" (ie salaried) posts are in public schools and universities but you need more than a TEFL certificate to get one of those (ie you probably need a Masters degree and a teaching qualification).

But there is freelance work available. It's a pain in the neck scheduling enough hours to get a half-decent monthly income but it's doable. Try AAC, Tekmil, EF.

ah ok, so some hourly work- but nothing you can totally count on. Thank you- appreciate the insight.
