Postgrad studies, general perspectives

Post by Argos » Fri Nov 29, 2013 5:50 pm

Hello everyone, I have just registered (by the way, as I'm using my phone, I am quite uncomfortable and I haven't looked into rules and such, so if I'm required to do some introduction or similar please tell me and I'll comply) and I hope I'll stay here for a long time, as being in Finland would be my dream for the future.

So, I am an EU student, I have a master's degree in my country, which is equivalent to toilet paper in order to work in Finland. So, I was thinking about applying to universities for a master's programme, learn the language in the meantime, and look for a job later. Here come the questions:

1. Would I be able to apply only to universities or also polytechnics? I heard they ask for many years of practical experience which I don't have. Would there be any relevant difference for my career? I mean, I don't want to be a CEO of a multinational company but I don't want to clean toilets either.

2. How hard is getting into unis and polytechnics (field of business/economics/finance)? I read that intake numbers are quite low.. I am trying to get all my documents ready but I don't want to get my hopes too high..

3. A foreigner with a good command of the language (now I don't have it, but spending two years there and having a Finn girlfriend I guess i will improve fast enough ) could have decent chances of being employed?

I have other questions but I'd rather not start a boring list, and I would truly appreciate people answering me.. thank you very much!

Thank you Anna.

Well, if competition will be fierce I'll do my best. Unfortunately I haven't the chance to do specific preparation for it, but that won't hold me from trying. Shouldn't it work, I plan to study in the UK and get (almost) fluent in Finnish; if this won't allow me to get a job, well, at least I would be able to say that I've tried.
