Foreigner and Finnish ID

Post by sandykateen345 » Fri Dec 13, 2013 4:21 pm

Hi,

I am new foreigner student and I am here to do my master degree(2 years). Please let me know if it is possible for me to get social security number on card. I already have social security number on paper but I want it on card. Is it possible?

Thanks

People who are here temporarily for studying get a henkilönumero/ID card? I didn't know that. Seems odd.

https://www.poliisi.fi/poliisi/home.nsf ... endocument or you get a Finnish driving licence. If you don't have A status, kela card is largely out of the question or if it's possible at all for B status residents. anyway, Kela card does not have a photo, so cannot be used for ID purposes.

people who are here for over 6 months or was it a year are considered a permanent resident, but don't confuse permanent residents with foreigners with permanent residence permit.

as a foreigner staying in Finland you can get a foto Id card. it is about 50 Eur and you can get it at the nearest police station
it somewhat does depend on your status, but If you have personal id number I am pretty sure it is possible for you.
What do you want from me?????

If you choose to have it delivered by email, it probably arrives in a week (you get two letters, one with the pins and one with the card on separate days).

Just mind you, the ID card while is chip&pin and all that, and is good as proof of Id in Finland, it isn't valid as a travel document for foreign travel.
