Paid a bill with the WRONG reference number? What to do?
Paid a bill with the WRONG reference number? What to do?
Hi Forum,
Well, The subject line pretty much says it all. Today, I mistakenly paid mobile phone's and Internet connection's (Elisa/Saunalahti) bill with the WRONG reference number.
I filled correctly the: Account number, Beneficiary name, and the Amount, BUT, I copied/pasted the reference number of the previous bill (November's bill). I noticed the mistake after the amount has been deducted from my balance already.
So, What should I do ?

Call and ask your current balance.
Even with the wrong ref number it still credits to your account since the refno referred to an invoice on your account. In almost 100% of consumer accounting systems, it is the balance that is primary. The refno helps you inquire about a specific bill, but your payment is credited to the account as a whole, not to the specific bill.

As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

Some time ago I did the same mistake and I didn't do anything but I got my money back after few days (probably they see that is a wrong reference number). However give them a call and ask.Samer2010 wrote:Hi Forum,

You can also log in to https://oma.saunalahti.fi to see what their system shows as the status of your latest invoice. If it's marked as paid and in general there are no outstanding payments, then you don't have to do anything else. If not, you can use the same service to message them.

Customer service number:
01019 0230
You can select English as service language from the menus.
If they haven't changed their billing system recently, the payment with wrong reference might be manually transferred to relevant bill if the finance department notices that there is a payment that belongs "nowhere" and the reference number is clearly wrong. In some cases this might not be noticed manually or there isn't enough information about where the payment actually belongs to, when they can transfer payment to correct bill via customer service. You need to provide the relevant info of course, which means your customer details, amount, payment day and the incorrect reference so that they can find it.
Also if you paid via internet bank, the payment won't show up at their end immediately but it might take few days before banks have actually transferred the payment through and they can actually correct it.

Thank you all !
I went to the nearest Elisa's office and got it sorted out, However, They say sometimes the payment is accepted right away if the reference number belongs to the exact former bill but not older than that. Anyways, next time I will make sure to put my glasses on

DON'T CALL SAUNALAHTI!
Even on the net if you want some customer service through "oma saunalahti".
They charge for every little thing!
I called once and was charged like normal for the call, expected. But I was also charged for the questions I asked!
And once I was charged for emailing Saunalahti through their "oma saunalahti" thing.
Jesus.

^ They won't charge for the service (except for the call price) but some actions might cost which should be stated in their price lists. For example opening a closed subscription, ordering new SIM card, changing the due day of a bill through customer service, changing subscription type, asking for PUK and stuff like that. SIM change seems to cost in oma.saunalahti as well but there it is 5e and via support I think more.
