Hello Everyone,

My name is Suomiluv.

I have just joined your forum. I am a 61 year old (young?) women living in the North East in the USA. I have visited Finland many times over the last 25 years and am blessed to have many very dear and loving Finnish friends. (FYI, I named my dog, Koira, which my Finnish friends get a big laugh out of. ).

It is my dream to one day, once I retire (w/in the next 4 to 10 years) to live in Finland, at least three to four months out of the year (spring/summer). Rather than stay w/my friends that length of time, I would prepare probably renting a room in one of the cities. (My friends are all over the map, Helsinki, Tampere, Kupio, and Oulu).

I would appreciate any information that anyone can provide me, particulatly from Americans like myself. I have very limited knowledge of the Finnish language, but intend to study it more, once I begin to make these plans. (This is my first step!).

Do note that as a tourist you can only stay inside Schengen for 90 days. Over that requires a residence permit and none of the usual categories provide for retired people:

Sounds like pincer or chihuahua. I'd prefer Piski, Rakki or Hurtta.
