Do we have anything like a coinstar in Finland? Change ahoy!

Post by ilikepeanutbutter » Fri Feb 21, 2014 4:34 pm

I am swimming in 5 cents and am wondering, do I just take them to the bank in a bag for deposit or can I take them to something like a Coinstar?

Thanks for the help!

Or just march to nearest shop/r-kioski etc. and ask if they would change them into notes. Don't dump 100€s worth at time though. Many times the small shops/kiosks etc. that deal with cash are happy to get small change. It costs to them too to get more from the bank...

It costs to them too to get more from the bank.
It also cost them if they return it to the bank.

I do not care to check (especially check the rules regarding N different banks) but I think at least recently most of the, took coins for free from individual customers if you deposited them to your account (and perhaps where ready to wait for them to be counted maybe a day or few).

If you have a business account they charge you.

I have seen those coinstar machines in the uk but didn't realise they charge 9% commission! amazing that people would use such a service rather than go to the bank.

I had alot of coins in the beginning of the year. I went to Danske bank in Malmi they have a coinstar.Just insert your ATM card and pin number. Then put the coins in the machine. Its a simple self service; You will also get the deposited amount the same day with no charges at all! I have been doing that every January since 2010 :D

coinstar is a brand of the american company Outerwall http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outerwall. According to that site they don't operate in Finland. I think you mean a deposit otto. machine

I took my coins to Nordea.

I put them into special bags with my information and put them into this box thing. They count the money themselves.

The money then went into my Nordea account.

I don't recall there being any charges in my account for the service.

I tried the talletus otto yesterday with about 200 coins i've built up over the years, it was quite efficient. it was about 98% accurate, rejecting a few euro coins which I put back in for a second time but did find 5 coins from foreign countries. The printout shows the breakdown of coins received (it accepts 1 and 2 cent coins too) and the money was in my account the same afternoon (and this was on a sunday).
