Sonera broadband connection - Inteno Router

Post by atroul » Tue May 06, 2014 4:13 am

Hello,
does anyone has problem with the bandwidth of the wifi connection of Inteno DG301AL router?
Via ethernet connection I get 98Mbps but via wifi I get 20Mbps, I think the problem is with the QoS future or Wmm but
I cant find how I can enable them.
Thank you

You sure you got nice free spectrum for your radio waves? I'm counting 11-17 different wireless networks where I sit and would expect similar results to you, especially in channels 1 to 8. I do get better results than you though, ~90Mbps with wired, ~40 with wireless (phone sitting 50 cm from the wlan box).

I tried different channels but I dont see much difference (~2Mbps).

I got 100 or 110 mbps from Welho but on wirless I get 30-40 mbps no matter what channel I try. One reason could be too many wireless routers in the same building....not sure.

Android phone and wifi analyzer will help you to check what the situation is.

Wireless performance is a real can of worms with all the channels, bandwidth allocations, supported 802.11 standards (on both ends), resource sharing, interference etc.

Most modern devices support 802.11n, some more expensive 802.11ac. 802.11n can theoretically support up to 600Mbps, but most often typical real life throughput will be around 40-50Mbps. The quoted max bandwidth always requires perfect conditions, perfect support in both devices and no interference - never going to happen in real life.

Things you can try:
- force router to use 40MHz bandwidth instead of 20MHz - not all devices will work properly with this (mine didn't). The usual setting seems to be 20/40MHz automatic selection. Also wider bandwidth - more interference from other users..
- get a router supporting 5GHz band and use it - less networks, less interference, probably better throughput.
- get a router (and other devices) that support 802.11ac (expensive).
- go wired.

What is the actual real-life speed of wireless networks?
