Turku on bicycle

Post by atroul » Mon Jul 28, 2014 1:18 am

Hello,
I am about to buy a new bicycle here in Turku (I will bring it from Greece - much cheaper... :P ).
Do I need special studded tyres for the winter?
Thank you

Been riding on the snow/ice for many years, and never used winter bike tires.

- Decrease your winter speed to about 60-70% of your regular summer/spring speed in the city.
- Always use a helmet (applies to summer and winter).
- Don't make the sharp turns you make in the summer/spring.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

And you will still fall from time to time. Puddle that has frozen to mirror, a bit of snow on top of that. One will fall over, at least without studded tyres. Been there, done that, glad I had the hat.
