Is this a common occurrence here in Finland? Is it advisable to use the drying room all year round?

Eastern Tampere, pretty quiet area, mostly students and old folks and not a whole lot of non-skiing people.

It wasn't anything fancy, but they took everything.

Yes, I also think you should write a note too, someone may have placed them elsewhere for a perfectly innocent reason.
But, also check the trash bin too! This happened to a lady I know (British family living as the only foreigners in a small building), her laundry went missing twice. Everything! The second time, they found it stuffed in the trash bin. She had a good idea which neighbor did it (very vocal about Finland being inhabited by Finns only...) but couldn't do anything cause she didn't see them. Ended up moving to a another building.

Whilst I had sublet an apartment in Kaleva, Tampere the sub tenant had all the carpets (rugs, mats) of the apartment stolen while airing them on the carpet bashing frame yoke, whilst I had clothes stolen from the drying room in the same building, had clothes stolen from different apartment block drying rooms in Hämeenlinna too, I never lived in "bad" areas so at least in my mind it´s pretty common.

Totally depending on your luck. I had towels taken from drying room. 3 of 5 towels. And they were 1 euro ikea hand towels. I would gladly given it if somebody needed :)
