What is a visa permit? Most probably you mean residence permit. Though it does not really matter what status you have in Finland, the only thing you should need is an address - it is needed for insurance and tax payment reasons. So when I travelled to Finland on a visa, but had a summer cottage I already had registered vehicles in Finland. And I had no finish ID then.Marakana wrote:Hello everyone,i have finish visa permit for 1year,i wonder can i buy a used(registered)car and register it on my name?plus i have driving licence from a country that has signed the Geneva or Vienna Road Traffic Convention.

As for driving with a foreign permit - you are right it should be issued by a country which is a signatory to the mentioned conventions. Although if you intend to drive after one year you should exchange you driving license into Finnish one
What do you want from me?????
Re: Driving in Finland
That depends where the OP's licence was issued. If it was issued in the EU it is not necessary to change it, although many people do.foca wrote:Although if you intend to drive after one year you should exchange you driving license into Finnish one

Obviously the op's license is not from EU - he just received a residence permitDMC wrote:That depends where the OP's licence was issued. It is possible to just have received a residence permit and have a license from the EU. After all, you usually need to apply for a Finnish residence permit if you are currently residing in another member state with a permit for that country.foca wrote:Obviously the op's license is not from EU - he just received a residence permitDMC wrote:That depends where the OP's licence was issued. True, but while the initial descriptionbetelgeuse wrote: It is possible to just have received a residence permit and have a license from the EU. After all, you usually need to apply for a Finnish residence permit if you are currently residing in another member state with a permit for that country.
technically applies to every EU country, using that when the license is actually from a EU country is bit like introducing yourself (in a Finnish immigration forum) as a somebody from a UN or OECD member state when you're French.have driving licence from a country that has signed the Geneva or Vienna Road Traffic Convention

Hello people, I'm not sure if this is the right place, I couldn't find a "creat a forum" button anywhere. But I have a question hopefully someone can answer. I have lived in Finland for 2 years and I just bought a van, it's a 2.4 diesel. Can anybody tell me how I can get an online quote for the insurance/an online quote for the tax? And just general information about what you need to do when you buy a car. Thanks in advance.
