When can I put winter tires on?

Hello,

I live in the southern part of Finland and will be making a trip North this weekend. Can I put my winter tires on already?

I understand from this website that legally you can't until Nov. 1st. Am I reading this right? If this article is right, do the Police really care if you put your winter tires on a week early?

With unstudded winter tires you can legally drive in June (not recommendable, but legally permissible). The studded tires are allowed from November 1st onwards, but the law says they can be used also at other times if the road conditions require using winter tires. Looking at weather maps, I'd say they are required this weekend.

The cops will not stop you if you have studded tyres now. The weather changes all the time. Just put them on.
