Tax card changes after child birth?

Post by Anutka » Wed Jan 28, 2015 3:34 pm

Hello,

please share your experience. Does verokortti / tax card change after child birth?
As I understood the sceme of KELA payments is as follows:

when I leave to maternity leave, let's say 5 weeks before the labor, my company acc. to my contract will pay me 2 months of full salary.
Then Kela starts to pay smth like 70% of my salary. So the question will I have to pay the same 24% of tax which I have been paying before on this 70% of salary that I will be getting from KELA, or the percentage changes (lowers)?
Then if I understood correctly Kela pays 70% for 10 months (?) and then mom has to go back to work or sit at home and get allowance which equals to 340€/month + 95€ additionaly per child.
Is my understanding correct? Thanks a lot, guys!

If you wish you can apply for a new tax card if the expected circumstances of your income change. In your particular situation you income is bound to be less , thus if you do not change the card the same percentage will be taken from your monthly income , but the tax authorities will anyway recalculate your income at the end of the period and you will have a bigger refund in December
What do you want from me?????

Any taxable income from Kela is ALWAYS taxed at a higher rate than your normal income tax.

So you should make sure you aren't going to lower your tax much, to cover yourself.
