Simple Bloody Greed!

Post by harryc » Tue Feb 03, 2015 10:54 pm

Finnkino - which charges an arm and a leg to see a film has this notice on their web page:

Löytötavarat

Finnkinon teattereihin jääneitä tavaroita voi tiedustella:

- soittamalla Kinolippuun 0600 007 007
(1,99 €/min. + pvm/mpm) arkisin klo 12-18, viikonloppuisin ja pyhinä klo 10-18.

It's impossible not to think that phone call will cost 12-20 euro - and then, too, only during limited hours.

+++

A few weeks ago a 9 year old girl left a wallet on the Lauttasaari bus - I called HKL and got FANTASTIC immediate personal service - they located the driver and I picked the wallet up early evening from Mankkaa bus terminal.

Calm down, it's 2 eur on top of the normal call. Do your calls ever cost 10 to 18 eur?
(not 2 eur minute)

You are such an angry sounding soul.

Herein Australia we have to pay over a euro for every cinema ticket we purchase on line. So it's actually cheaper to go into the cinema to buy a ticket, than online.

Put things into perspective a bit. You might find life a bit more enjoyable!!!

What? Please read the post again!

And what do you think the '/min' means??

As for the 12-20€ possibility - I NEVER call 0600 - I have heard enough horror tales from friends and relatves - and don't forget the extra trick of the call being technically answered and then you are on a queue.

Yes life is very enjoyable - and even more so when you run into helpful people - the woman at HKL got flowers as thanks for the help with the wallet.

If you put up with outright greed, it's totally your business. (Please write to the Ilta-lehti reporter cited below and tell them to stop writing about the crooks - she should just tell us about the flowers that are going to bloom in the spring - why bother to try to fix any wrongs now)

And what does online ticket buying in Australia have to do with the price of eggs in China?

I forgot my bag (it had passport, wallet and few other documents) in a bus and had to call different lost and found offices and in the end I did not get my passports back but got a bill of 55 euros for calling these offices. This is ridiculous.

Yes, I agree. Finnkino's prices are outrageous. My kids used to be quite active cinema goers but no more... they would rather spend their pocket money at the gym (circa 30€ a month for as much workout time as you like versus 13,50€ for one film lasting 90 minutes). And most kids seem to have access to Netflix nowadays anyway. But like many things in Finland there is a lack of competition. FinnKino runs the biggest cinemas in the best locations... So, 47€ for two adults and two children (under 10 yrs) to watch Shaun the Sheep on Saturday afternoon :x and that's without the rip-off popcorn.

But, harryc, I suggest you send them an email rather than phone them: http://www.finnkino.fi/eng/cinemas/contact/
There seems to be no charge (assuming they actually take the time to email you) and they also have a Facebook page where I have managed to get answers to questions in the past. You can't make reservations though.

Re: Lost and Found. My son left his mopokortti in the bus and they sent us a letter saying they had "something" belonging to my son and would return it for 55€. Since we guessed it was the mopokortti and he is now about to take his driving test, we decided to ignore the letter and let them keep the mopokortti!

Ya, it's 2€ per minute on the top of normal call (landline, mobile calls).

I can confirm this as well. The call costed me about 17 euros in addition to the bill I got for my returned item and the shipping costs.

Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

Yes I saw the email 'possibility' - but I can imagine that in many cases - considering the items one has with them in a cinema (house keys. etc.), there would be some urgency (and I hope no one says that the urgency should warrant 0600 numbers! - btw - I wonder what protective legislation has been possibly avoided by keeping the cost one cent below 2€ - or is the usual commercial thing of using the '99').

Further I doubt if the general populace has not learned that an email address is the new substitute for 'Mappi Ö' in days of yore. I answer business emails almost immediately and rarely later than a few hours. I'm embarrassed by the thanks I get for 'exceptional service, promptness, etc.'

There are 2 stories above about 'busses' and '55€' - I doubt it was HKL as they handled the wallet so beautifully. (Actually the same girl lost some keys on a bus a couple of years ago - and they were quickly available at the Hki Railway Station office.

Maybe the joy these days is finding the jewels of people and companies that handle things well - they offer a wonderful contrast to the 'others.'

FinnKino has probably outsourced the telephone customer service to an external company so are not actually making money out of it at all. So maybe not greed on their behalf but more like they don't care whether their customers get value for money.

Can one ask for a refund, if that call was made after the law changed? :D

I think you can just pop by their offices, if you can afford to pay a visit to Mäkelänkatu during their office hours.
IIRC, a visit to their office costed me 2 or 4 euros to look for a pair of gloves, a year ago. Didn't find them, though :(
