Winter activities in Inari and Ivalo, advice ?

Post by Ben76 » Tue Feb 10, 2015 5:00 pm

Hello everyone !

2 friends and I have just arrived in Inari, and we were looking for typical winter activities to experience.
The main problem (and not the less important) is the price:

In Inari (where we stay 3 days), there are only two companies offering activities. So prices are really high, 115 euros in the first one for 1h of husky safary, 140e in the second company. We know that the almost absence of competition justifies high prices, but we can't afford to pay as expensive activities as here. After these three days, we are going to Ivalo for two days.

We would like to know if some of you live in one of these two cities or at least know them a little bit, and if you have pieces of advise for us ?

Do you know a company offering lower prices ? Can we find more interesting offers ?

Thank you for your help !

http://www.saariselka.fi/content/fun-and-leisure The winter high season is about to start so most likely there aren't many discount campaigns to be found. Hiring cross country skis is affordable, take a 50km day trip and you'll surely feel having done something :)

I guess that cross country skiing is just such an obvious answer to the question, that if you are not already doing it, it is because you don't want to or don't know how, don't have the gear, which might also mean you don't have the right clothes. There's also downhill at Saariselkä, which won't be cheap, but won't be an overpriced rip-off like the tourist activities are. You can go to Siida in Inari, it has good exhibits.
