Finnish Registration - Vechicle

Post by Komediruzecki » Mon Apr 20, 2015 12:17 am

Hi.

I am doing some work from Croatia about Finland. I need someone who could tell me a bit about the topic - The registration of a vechicle in Finland.

I know about Trafi and I did already use a lot of info from their site.. But I need little story of how do you go trough registering proces of a let's say a CAR.

So if there is already a topic where I can find that info, please send me a link, or a message. Or if you know how to answer these questions I would be verry thankful:

1. What papers do you need when going to a service which will inspect your car?
2. What is a must work in a vechicle, the things you could fail the technical examination of your car.
3. How much does the whole process cost.
4. And most important: - How does it look altogether, what do they do to your car.. etc, Maybe some pictures and so..

the import process is described here http://www.tulli.fi/en/persons/car_tax/index.jsp

I don't know about croatia but my imported 3.5 year old BMW from germany had a valid HU/AU from Germany, so it wasn't inspected when brining it to Finland. Only 10mins of paperwork was needed, which the registration office (katsastus office) did for me and I just filled in my name and address. It will be another 18months after brining it to Finland that they do the first inspection in Finland.

If your car does need an inspection I don't think the test will be much different to other countries. do the brakes work, lights + warning lights, no cracks in the windscreen, seat belts work, emissions not massively above normal, silencer and exhaust in working order, tires ok and no rips and tread is deep enough etc. These are not finland specific at all.

Thanks to changes in the car tax law in 2014 brining your own car to Finland when you move there yourself (compared to a Finn buying one from abroad) isn't much different now. In both cases you pay import tax. More on that here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=52674

Thank you very much.

Maybe this would be more specific.. hmm

Hello, if you have the time to let me know:
Currently writing a final paper on the topic of Finland - Croatia as regards the technical inspection of vehicles, so if you happen to know someone who might be able to describe the process of that in Finland, of how much it all costs, which documents are required, what is tested on the vehicle during the inspection (although it's mostly the same everywhere, but if you know what is the difference between the Croatian and Finland if any) and perhaps some images, paperwork and things like that, would be great.
Thanks in advance!

No, I can't do this homework, if I could than I Would do it.. But I don't really speak Finnish to speak to those people about that, and I don't know where on Internet I could find such information. So if You have idea about any of this please say..

I would like to speak to anyone who is in Finland and has a Car so he can describe it to me a little bit..(speaking in English) What do you do before technical exam, how much money do you pay.. for what kind of vehicle and stuff like that.

I'd say most people don't do anything prior to an inspection, unless there is clearly something wrong with the car, i.e. they already know it wouldn't pass. The price is from around 50€ upwards, depending on the location, re-inspection (checking that faults serious enough to fail the inspection have been fixed) is around 20-30€. The only paperwork required is the registration certificate technical part (part 1), a new one of which will be given after having passed the inspection.
