Urgent inquiry about residence permit

Post by seungwonoh » Sat Jun 06, 2015 7:45 pm

Hello,

I am an exchange student from South Korea who studied at Haaga-Helia University for this 2015 Spring.

Currently, I have a student residence permit(OLE_OPI) whose date is from Jan 5 to July 22.

After the semester, I had a chance to discuss my unpaid internship with my employer at a small startup.

However, they said they are only available with an unpaid internship, so a residence permit cannot be granted and you cannot work in Finland with a tourist visa as well.

Therefore, I need to extend a few more months of my student permit or apply again for other permits.

I asked the company for help, but they said they don't know much about this matter, so you need to find a way on your own to stay longer in Finland legally after July.
Only if appendices from the company are necessary, they can provide them to me.

I really need advice for my situation because I do not want to miss my opportunity to have work experience here in Finland.

I would really appreciate your help.

Best Regards,
Seungwon.

Sorry, but it will not work.
There is no residence permit for unpaid work and they won't extend your study permit without a new study (and the funds in the bank and medical insurance).
Besides this is a not standard situation and it will not be decided upon before your permit ends.

It's a long shot, but there might be a way. If you have the the funds and health insurance, you could try and fill out the OLE_TY3 (RP for internship). Make sure to use the free field to explain your situation. Keep in mind that you're using the form for a slightly different purpose, so there will be fields that you won't fill.

Another option would be to apply for RP extension while showing sufficient funds and health insurance. Also use the free field to explain your situation.

Like rinso said, this is an unusual situation; success is has a low likelihood.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.
